Fired Up!

Sisters debut beauty book for redheads.

Redheads know that crimson hair is more than just a color—it’s a way of life that comes with its own challenges, like unique makeup needs, fashion questions and mane dilemmas. Scarlet-headed sisters Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti launched HowtobeaRedhead.com in 2011. The site garners 500,000 hits a month, has more than 150,000 engaged social media followers, regularly partners with top beauty brands and has been recognized by media all over the globe. Its latest creation is a tell-all tome.

The “How to be a Redhead” (Page Street Publishing) book hits shelves this month. Its tagline, “The Essential Guide To Becoming Your Most Radiant, Redheaded You,” is the first beauty book to cater to those with red locks, according to the sisters. It is touted for answering all redhead beauty questions, with specialized advice and tips for hair care, skin care, makeup, health and fashion.

“Growing up, we would scout the beauty book aisle and quickly noticed there was a guide for every nationality, skin and hair type except for those with red hair,” said Stephanie Vendetti, “We still find it shocking! We’re overjoyed to bring the world the first-ever beauty book dedicated to redheads.”

The 272-pager also includes celebrity commentary from fashion designer Nicole Miller, actresses as well as the beauty teams behind famous faces such as Julianne Moore and Christina Hendricks.

“We’re huge fans of Paul Mitchell’s new Ultimate Color Repair line. It’s made for redheads and super ‘redhead friendly’. We love the fact that the line is sulfate-free, vegan and color-safe. We’re also loving John Frieda’s Radiant Red line. It was even included in our sold-out February beauty subscription, H2BAR Box,” Vendetti told Happi.

“We don’t know what we’d do without dry shampoo and texturing dust. Our favorite dry shampoo—Verb Dry Shampoo Blow Pro Faux ‘Dry’ Dry Shampoo. Our favorite texturing dust is Davines This Is A Texturizing Dust. Co-washing is a must, especially since we have super curly, coarse red hair,” added Adrienne Vendetti Hodges.

For those who think this segment of society is too small to target, the Vendetti sisters want them to think twice.

“Many people forget about redheads, especially in the beauty industry,” said Vendetti Hodges. “But, if you look at the numbers, about 6% of America alone are natural redheads. That’s about 19 million people, and that doesn’t include those who dye their hair.”

According to Vendetti, it is extremely important to take care of red hair. She told Happi, “We always recommend color-depositing shampoos and conditioners if you’re looking to enhance your red hair. They naturally deposit color in the hair as you wash your red locks.”

The fiery-haired duo will be on a book tour from April to November. The tour will begin at the FIT Barnes and Noble bookstore on April 14 in New York City.
